Vaccination start in Somalia

SOS Children's Village Somalia is at the forefront of administering the Covid 19 vaccine

SOS Children's Villages Somalia, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Somalia, UNICEF Somalia and the Somali Ministry of Health, has launched a Covid-19 vaccination campaign. Started in March at the SOS Children's Villages mother and child clinic in Mogadishu, the first vaccinations have now also been carried out in South West State.

So far, almost 900 people have been vaccinated at the SOS Children's Villages clinic in Mogadishu, and more than 10,500 people are expected to receive the vaccination by the end of the year. Mogadishu is thus now the largest vaccination centre in Somalia. As in many other countries, caregivers and high-risk groups such as the elderly with chronic illnesses were vaccinated first.

"There is a lot of misinformation circulating in Somalia about the Covid-19 vaccine. Therefore, our staff are educating the public about it. Such vaccination campaigns have been successfully implemented worldwide for years. And we, the Mother and Child Clinic of SOS Children's Villages, will do everything we can to protect people from this pandemic," says Mohamed Dakane, the clinic's medical director.
