Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. As a result, four out of ten children grow up in poverty . Many children are forced to work for economic reasons and also suffer from domestic violence or are neglected . In addition, the country has been rocked by political unrest since 2018.
Among other things, the lack of prospects means that hundreds of thousands of people attempt to migrate to the USA illegally every year. Younger children are then often left behind with relatives who are not always able to look after them properly.
We want to ensure that children and young people grow up healthy, are lovingly cared for and receive a good education . Our local employees have many years of experience in preventing domestic and sexual violence and in supporting families in need. They are also well networked in the region.
