Pregnancy and the early days with a baby bring about major changes. This stage of life is not always carefree: around 20 per cent of mothers and 10 per cent of fathers experience mental health problems during pregnancy or in the first year after the birth. Anxiety, worry, loneliness or pre-existing mental health conditions can place a heavy burden on parents – and can also affect their bond with their child and the child’s development.
Early support is particularly important during this sensitive time. In Liechtenstein and the surrounding region, there has so far been a lack of low-threshold, professionally supervised group programmes for pregnant women and parents experiencing mental health difficulties. Together with the Sophie von Liechtenstein Foundation, we are therefore supporting preventative group programmes focusing on pregnancy, birth and the first year of life.
The groups are supervised by experienced psychologists, psychotherapists and social workers. Parents find a safe space there, receive professional support and can share experiences with others in similar situations. At the same time, the parent-child bond, personal resources and confidence in caring for the baby are strengthened. The aim is to address difficulties at an early stage, prevent crises and provide children with the best possible conditions for development right from the start.
By donating to this programme, you enable pregnant women and parents facing difficulties to receive early professional support, thereby also supporting their children.
