Award for SOS Children's Village Liechtenstein

Yesterday evening our joint project with the Clinicum Alpinum of the "Mother-Child-Therapy" was awarded the recognition prize for equal opportunities.

"The treatment of depression should not be a question of cost": This is the motto of the joint project of SOS Children's Village Liechtenstein and the Clinicum Alpinum, which was awarded the Recognition Prize for Equal Opportunities yesterday evening.

Around 10% of mothers are affected by depression in the first year after the birth of their child. This is not about the "baby blues" that many women know in the first days after giving birth. It is about a serious illness which can have far-reaching consequences if it is not treated.
But where to take the baby if in-patient treatment is necessary? Most mothers cannot and do not want to separate themselves from the baby for 2-3 months. From an organizational point of view, this is usually not even possible. Therefore, the Clinicum Alpinum has special family rooms for mother-child therapy places. The mother can have the baby with her during the therapy.

However, since health insurance companies do not cover the costs of care for the children, this type of therapy is reserved for families who can afford the costs of around CHF 6,500. This is where SOS Children's Villages comes in: All mothers and families should be given the chance to have this disease treated, regardless of the financial means of the parents. Thanks to donors, we are therefore able to cover these childcare costs for the child.
