We are delighted to have H.S.H. Tatjana von Lattorff at our side as our patron. Her heartfelt commitment to the concerns of SOS Children's Villages Liechtenstein is a great honour and motivation for us. Her valuable commitment is a strong sign of solidarity and an immense support for our work.
In her role, H.E. Tatjana von Lattorff is keen to familiarise herself with the work of SOS Children's Villages on the ground. One example of her active interest in the work of SOS Children's Villages is her visit to the Moosburg crisis residential group in Austria in 2019, where she gained an impression of the care and support provided to young people.
The residential group offers acutely vulnerable children protection and a temporary home. Such endangerment can be caused by psychological, physical or sexual violence, neglect or severe family crises. In these emergencies, the children need rapid, professional and loving accommodation away from their family to ensure their well-being.
Shortly after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, SOS Children's Villages, with the help of dedicated volunteers, set up a children's zone at Vienna Central Station in the Caritas day centre. There, after their long and exhausting journey, the children found a safe place to rest and play. Within a year, the children's zone was visited over 6,500 times, where children could play, paint and, above all, simply be children again.
To find out more about support for Ukrainian war children, I.D. Tatjana von Lattorff, Princess of Liechtenstein, visited the Child Protection Centre for Refugee Families in March 2022: "You can see that many children are traumatised, as evidenced by the drawings they have made. At the child protection centre, they find a place of peace and have time to catch their breath and recharge their batteries.’
The children who arrived in Vienna had been through a lot in the days before. They had to say goodbye to family members, leave their homes behind and were afraid. Many were exhausted from the journey, the excitement and the uncertainty. SOS Children's Villages was on site with staff and trained volunteers from March 2022 to March 2023, looking after the children's zone.
With our current SOS Emergency Relief Project Ukraine, we are reaching over 370,000 children and families affected by the war in Ukraine, as well as unaccompanied children who have fled the country.
Patron Tatjana von Lattorff was also left with a lasting impression by her visit to the SOS Children's Villages vocational training centre in Berlin in November 2023: "Thanks to SOS Children's Villages' excellent network, the young people find apprenticeships in the fields of health, social work, catering, office work or horticulture. I am convinced that this offer will enable young people to develop their full potential and make an important contribution to society."
Choosing a career is no easy task and is already a challenge for many young people. When there is a lack of parental guidance, it is an enormous challenge for many young people to find their way around the options.
With its vocational training center, SOS Children's Villages offers support and help to make this step easier to manage. In particular, young people who have difficulties at school are actively supported here.
